My name is Ocean, I’m 28 years old. I was born visually impaired with 20% vision in both eyes and in the last 4years my vision has deteriorated rapidly to 5% I was recommended by my specialist to get a Guide Dog so I can remain independent. I began the application process, had an assessment, was suited to a dog, went through training, and completed it – now there is a new member to our family, my best friend, my eyes, my freedom. Her name is JJ, a 4year old black Labrador, intelligent, well trained for my home and city life style. She has a big personality, playful, caring, Sociable, and gentle. When working in harness I trust her with my life because she is devoted and loyal on the job. Where ever we go, she attracts positive attention due to her quiet nature and good behaviour. JJ adapts to the changes in her routine because of the many changes in our lives. She has enriched my life with confidence and determination to achieve my goals
Could you imagine yourself suddenly in darkness? How would you cope on your own?
Guide Dogs can transform a regular life without compromise.
JJ and I will be participating in the ASB Auckland Marathon 29 October 2017 to fundraise for a life changing cause. Help me help puppies become Guide Dogs like JJ by giving whatever you can using the “Give Now Button. The more people that know about Blind Foundation Guide Dogs the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my story with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it is greatly appreciated.
